In our survey of customers, State Farm did not perform as well as some of the other companies we looked at when it came to consumers’ satisfaction with policy discounts. Additionally, State Farm’s rates for drivers with poor credit are typically higher than those of some of its rivals.
State Farm is the leading 3rd place in our ranking of the Best Auto Insurance Companies in 2023 with a 4.2 out of 5 score. It also has scores that are higher than average in some of the subcategories we looked at, like how it handles claims and whether customers would recommend State Farm to others who are looking for auto insurance.
State Farm is the No. 1 provider of competitive rates for many drivers. 3 in our most recent evaluation of the cheapest auto insurance providers. Coverage costs State Farm customers an average of $1,279 per year, $268 less than the national average of $1,547. In our investigation of low-cost car insurance providers, the only insurers with lower average rates are Geico and USAA, which are only available to members of the military.
State Farm’s Customer Service is tied for No. 1 in our Customer Service subcategory. 2 with American Family and has a score of 4.3 out of 5, simply behind No. 1 USAA. After filing a claim, 54% of State Farm customers report being completely satisfied with the ease of contacting customer service and the level of service they received. State Farm’s customer service only satisfied 2% of customers very much.
State Farm claims to be the No. 1 insurance company, with ties to Farmers, Geico, and Nationwide. 3 with a score of 4.1 in the Claims Handling subcategory. No, only. No. 1 American Family 2 With scores of 4.3 and 4.2, respectively, USAA came in first place in this subcategory.
According to our survey, nearly half of State Farm customers say they are completely satisfied with the ease with which they can file a claim, and more than half say they are completely satisfied with how the company handled their claims.
Even though State Farm’s claims handling scores in our survey are generally above average, fewer than half of those polled are completely satisfied with the communication they received during their claims experience.
Customer Loyalty at State Farm State Farm ranks No. 1 with a score of 4.2 out of 5. 3 in our subcategory of Customer Loyalty. Only American Family and USAA receive higher ratings. About 59% of survey takers who have made a claim say they are very likely to keep their State Farm policies, and 52% say they would highly recommend State Farm to someone looking for car insurance.
Among the companies we investigated, State Farm had the third-lowest average annual rate. On average, coverage from State Farm costs $1,279 per year.
